In My Fearful Wake

If I wake up mutely screaming,

Voice caught in my lung,

And you’re soundly sleeping,

Without fear on your tongue,

I’ll remember my goodbye,

My farewell to you,

And I’ll mutely figure why,

It was right for me to do.

If I find myself in tears,

Unable to even breathe,

Caught up in my old fears,

Because you had to leave,

I’ll perceive the injury,

How you left my heart in two,

How much you meant to me,

But how little I meant to you.
